Niš, Serbia - The Think Big Team alumni association kicked off their yearly national eco-marathon project called RECYCLETON 2011 on May 28, 2011, in Niš, Serbia. The main goal of this project is to raise awareness about environmental protection and recycling in Serbia with the emphasis of ecological and safe disposal of e-waste, as well as promoting volunteerism and civic activism among alumni and youth.

During the several hours of the action in downtown Niš, 30 Think Big Team volunteers successfully managed to collect 400kg (881lbs) of e-waste. While a number of volunteers greeted citizens who brought the waste themselves, local Coordinators patrolled Niš and collected the disposables from people's homes. All waste was transported to Pančevo to be recycled by BiS Recycling Center which has, through its employee Božidar Potkonjak who is a Community Connections program alumnus, partnered with Think Big Team in this project.

RECYCLETON 2011 in Niš was organized by A-SMYLE finalist Marko Stojanović and his classmate Janko Belopavlović. Recycleton Niš hosted guests from the U.S. Embassy in Belgrade and is going to be followed by two actions in Vrbas and Srbobran on the 10th and 11th of June. The Niš action is first out of ten planned for this year’s RECYCLETON program.

Last year, RECYCLETON 2010 had seven actions and collected 14.5 tons (about 32,000lbs) of e-waste that was recycled at BiS Recycling Center.
